Nice W126s guys. You have a great looking 500SEL Nomad. A moderator needs to pin this thread on top of the page. Keep on posting those pictures.
You have any pictures of your W116 Nomad?

Yeah sure but I'll host them off-site so I don't get into trouble for showing them in this forum
I know many will find the rims vulgar but take heart in knowing I no longer have them
She's back on factory alloys, which looks quite cool with the car being lowered, no new pics though

This old pic is kind of how it looks now, I think the only difference is, now it has tints

Got me some new wheels
17x8" AMG Aero I Monoblock
These are wheels designed specifically for the W126 by AMG, with a nice, low offset of ET11 and the original AMG logo from when it was not part of Daimler-Chrysler, ie not ///AMG, they were also available for the W124 but in a different offset
Also put on a new rear bumper from a euro gen-2 126 which is deeper than the standard gen-1 euro which I had on, not a great deal different but, it looks better proportioned with it on

very nice!
Just threw on the H&R sport springs and KYBs... hope it settles a little lower. The handling is greatly improved. Just ordered a set of Monoblock IIs
but here she lies in winter mode

Lets see that monster engine conversion!
Ah, to modify or not to modify?
I have 2 Porsches and I've ALWAYS sworn by keeping to the 'Stuttgart Standard' and never vary.
When I bought my 560SEL, I got it as just a run around but I loved driving it so much I found myself restoring it.
Originally I just wanted to get the original AMG option pack that was offered in 1986 but I couldn't find much at all. I got a new AMG [Italian] steering wheel, the original rear spoiler new and a set of AMG 17x7.5 & 8.5 rims but no engine parts.
Then I saw an AMG supercharger for sale from an E55. Too much work I thought but I had a quick look and next minute I own a complete 2003 E55 AMG motor and trans and so the project is on in a big way.
I'm trying to do everything I can in keeping with the original 'style' of the 560 and except from under the bonnet, it should look like a 1986 AMG 560SEL.
It's turning out to be VERY expensive but fun so far.

560SEL-E55 conversion
hi Harkgar,
what part of the world are you in? My E55 conversion is WAY behind schedlue. I'm trying to sell my 928GTS Porsche but that hasn't happened. I bought a 1981 928 as a run around while the 560SEL is off the road but this has has needed a lot of work, including engine rebore! Thankfully it will be registered this week. I've collected most of the E55 parts and a heap of AMG parts for the W126 SEL, including the body kit and rear wing [living under my bed!]. I found a new original AMG steering wheel and I posted a photo of the 8.5" and 7.5" AMG wheels fitted. Since then I bought set of new RH rims from Germany in 10" and 9", so I'll have sell the ones in the posted photo. I bought the comlete wiring from a flood damaged 2005 E55 and the front exhaust/cats section from LA in the USA, that is still in shipping. You are right about the size, everthing I have measured up says it will fit ok. Not sure about the tailshaft yet, have to convert the 3 bolt one to 4 bolt? Interesting you mention brakes. I would like to upgrade them but I don't know one would be a suitable conversion. The mechanics will be pretty easy but the electronics are going to be a big challange. I have bought a Mercedes CAN BUS scanner from Germany to help set up the computers. Mike

1987 560SEL, 1987 570SEC
I own a 1986 560 SEL and a 1999 E-55 (no Kompressor). Your project is the most exciting one for a 560. There should be a lot of room for the transplant. The E-55 Kompressor engine has no crank driven fan so there is an extra 6 to 8 inches between the new engine and the radiator. You will need those big late model brake rotars too to stop those 469horses and 516 pound foot of torque. Stiffer springs too.

Bought it last month, 36k miles! Everything was perfect except I had to replace tires (original set) fluids and the radio antenna rubber grommet thing. It was a European delivery to an old couple in Oakland.

Mercedes Modification
And one more in the Mercedes Modification genre. The first photo is the before AND after for my modifications. The second photo is the cammed 2002 LS6 motor that will be mated to a modified 4L60E transmission, that will be over the GM rack & pinion steering gear that is in the SEC.
Start: 1987 560SEC
Finish: 1987+ FrankenBenz 570SEC

That is one very sweet SEC. I love it.
How do your laws in Las Vegas affect mods like you are doing?
They are super strict here. I'm lucky to have got approval for my E55 mods with just a minimum of inspection when I complete it.
I think mine will end up being an SEL55.
