Your car is a very good investment. A friend of mine drove his 5 cylinder SDL for over 20years until the Toronto winter salt ate the rear fender. I believe the engine is soldiering on in a repaired body after he sold it. It burns anything oily.

Do not trash your classic. Limit the wheels to 18 inch. Anything bigger is pimpy. Buy something from the 107 series.

Sweet car Tobias. I have its 'sister', a 560SEL, same colour, same wheels.
I agree with 'Harkgar' big flashy rice-boy wheels spoil the look of clasics like these.

Hi there Harkgar
I am sorry to say that I am trading in my baby from birth 560 SEL for a "rice"! Circumstances forced the sale (one of which is my wife who complains of the oil stains on the drive). The kids are driving age and needed wheels so I am trading in my old faithful for a Honda Accord. I shall soldier on with my 2006 CDi.

I've received the wiring looms and exhausts from LA and I'm into a deal with a couple of electronic engineers in Melbourne, [800 km away], who have set up a CAN BUS business. They are going to do the integration of the electronics of the E55 motor/trans with the 560. In other words, give he 560 a CAN BUS. It is getting very complex, so I've decided to get this stuff completely sorted before I go on. If the electronics is a no go, I can back out and sell my parts. The main issues are the inter relationships between all of the E55 systems. I don't want to get into ESP, ABC, Parktronic, AirMatic Suspension or the E55s ABS but the Central gateway will seek an 'ok to go' from these systems before start up. The security imobilising system is another giant PITA. We have to disable the systems that won't be used or set up 'fake' responses.
Anyway we've just started on this last week, so it's a worrying and expensive time.
It's all possible but is it worth it? So far yes. The end result will be a big, very comfortable, high performace limo at much less than I can buy an E55 here.

hi Aussie
Not much new I'm sorry. I've got this 928 Porsche project that's been going on for a year now and just won't end. It's going to be my ride while the SEL55 gets done. A huge money pit sadly but I'm in too deep to bail.

What year is your 928? The most powerful GT had 360 horses. Is it stick? This V-8 has a timing belt not a chain and probably needs to be replaced. I have driven a 5 speed one in the early 1990s. It was very fast but heavy, not at all like the 911.
Is there a way you can get rid of the electronics in the E55 supercharged package? I read that Chevy and Ford sell brand new "crate" engines without emission equipment in the USA but otherwise identical to the OEM engines. If you can attach a throttle linkage to the new engine then maybe you can bypass all the electronics.
Keep us posted please.
