I dont have the capcity to post a pic. its a small knob with a white dot on it thats can turn to the left or rifgt, but i cannot figure out what it is

1987 300SDL aka the "Money Pit"
Sounds aftermarket because there should be nothing but a parts bin below that ash tray. Is it mounted in the wood center console or did they cut up the tray in front of the wood?
