1991 420SEL....your thoughts please
Ok I have found a 1991 420SEL for sale. The car is a 9.5 out of 10 inside and out. It is a one owner car with all the service records from the local MB dealer. All recommended services have been performed up to 180k. The car run and drives almost to well. It has a total of 237,000 miles on it they are asking 4300.00. I need lots of input. Is the price high? What happens at this age/miles to a benz that would be costly?
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

85 500 SEL
That’s 15,800 miles per year. Do you know if those are highway miles?
Pricing context: a year and a half ago I paid $5000 for a 91 300 SE with 103,000 miles, one owner, and up to date service records.
It’s in good condition b/c it’s one owner and was cared for up to 180,000 miles verified. Do you know what service it got after that? Were the timing chain and guides changed at 200,000 miles?
Although it was well cared for the miles can take their toll. Frankly the engine’s getting close to it non-rebuild service life. The transmission, rear axle assembly, and front end could also be due for expensive service.
I’d pass – keep looking – find a 91 420 with 180,000 miles with service records and $4300 would be a fair price.

Thanks for the input. The old guy that owned it died. His widow has been driving the car. All that's been done since the last dealer service is oil changes, brakes, etc.....nothing major. The asking price they say is firm due to the sound system in it. The dead guy was a member of the local symphony and was a audio nut. Receipts show he spent over 5k in upgrading the sound system.

I say go for it! These cars are awesome on the highway and very reliable! At least my Sophie has been nice to me. You will fall in love instantly with her. And as Rickyfandr said, the curves on this car are beautiful- a true classic.
