Starter switch problems

Hi All,

Haven't written in some time mainly due to the fact that the old girl ('83 280 SEL) has been driving me nuts. It all started off with a the ignition barrel locking up. After reading up on the barrel issues I immediately wanted to replace the old barrel. On trying to change it how ever I realised that it had broken and the top part of the lock was spinning. So no way to identify the exact location of the 1 position to release the collar. Managed to get it out after several hours of worming around. How ever I had to cut the old collar to get it off.

Now the fun starts. I had to re wire the starter switch. After doing this car does not start. As in the starter motor doesn't turn. Every thing else works as it should. Except for a clicking noise I hear from the fuse box. I also noticed that one of the relays were hot. I took them out and checked them and they seem to be working fine. It could be the neutral safety switch but not sure as I didn't have any issues with it before or the OVP.

Currently I start her up by turning the switch to on and using the old bit of wire on the starter solenoid. She starts up fine. Could anyone point me in the direction I should take to fix the starting problem ?

Does any one have a diagram of how the starter switch should be positioned. Not sure if this is not in the correct position when it was installed.

Any responses will be greatly appreciated
