Hi. well i have few questions..

Hey everyone, im new to this here..
well i just bought my mercedes and i love it..
my dad has many of em so i can get spare parts--i think im rather lucky.

ok now i have a few questions;

- do i have to remove the front bumper when i want to change the headlights?

- does it have air suspension like the 560sel?

- how many HP does it have?

- what can i do to make it look *younger* ?

- does the 1988 have the big speakers in the front door panels?

- and any other tips would be appreciated.

Thank youu!

You do not have to remove the bumper to change the headlights

It may have SLS (self leveling suspension) like the 560 - check to see if you have a hydraulic fluid container on the left hand side of the engine near the front

The HP specs are different for NA cars - I can't remember, but if you do a search I'm sure you'll find it somewhere

There are lots of 'mods' you can do - it's a matter of taste, IMO they look great pretty much as they are

Speakers may be in the front door panels if it has the 10 speaker system - 88 may have been too early

When was the timing chain tensioner and guide rails last changed - how many miles on it?

The US spec 420 (M116) engine produced 201 hp.
My 1988 560SEC has the 10 speaker system, I think the 420 may have it from the same year.

Tips: Use premium fuel and fully synthetic lubricants. Just take good care of the car.

Not much can be done to make the car look younger, production stopped in 1991. It's an extremely elegant car, if well cared for they make quite a statement.

It does not have SLS.

It all depends on which options were fitted to your car. The 560s got a lot of the better options as standard, the 420s were quite well equip but could still be optioned up.

Perhaps in the NA market 420s did not have SLS, over here, they came with it standard. Similarly the audio system - depends on what was ordered/fitted.

You can run your VIN through the Russian MB Club VIN decoder to see what options it was fitted with.

The 126 ceased production in 1991 in Germany, it continued in production until 1993 in South Africa.

BTW - you may need to be a little patient in here for answers, it's not the most frequented forum on the board.
