1991 Mercedes 300SE (currently being repainted)
Question Light Modification for 300se; for it or against it?

currently own a 1991 300SE

What is your opinion on the following cosmetic modifications?

Before

After

Here are the links to the items:
-Headlights ($203+44ship=$247 USD)
-Avantagarde Grill ($129+20ship=$149 USD)

Here are other common Upgrades / Modifications for the W126:

-Clear Corner lights (im not the biggest fan of these....)
-EUROPEAN Hadlights (these look better than stock US, and out here in the Desert they dont crack like stock after being exposed to the heat and intense sun... Definately a worthy upgrade )
-

so are any of these worth it?

I really like those new headlights. I was thinking of doing the same. It looks very nice on your color car!

Go for it I say
I had considered getting some of those crystal lense headlights from ebay but I decided not to because the lenses are only polycarbonate (plastic) which deteriorates quite badly over time

I even did my own photoshop a while back

The stock euros are the best way to go for both the look and lighting upgrade.

The crystal look is strange and its performance is unknown to me.

This is the subordinate issue:

You will have to decide whether to keep the US headlight wipers, replace them with the euro headlight wiper assembly which requires new valances also, or simply eliminate the headlight wipers altogether for a cleaner look, but that requires plugging the holes on the old valances or buyingnew ones and repainting them.

The entire euro wiper setup, including valances, motors, wipers, and dash thumbwheel control, could cost $700 or even more. (which is a good argument to simply leave the US headlight wipers in place, to save money)

Light Modification

I would replace the America headlights for the Euro lights anyday. I have already completed such a modification to my 89 300 SE, couldn't be more happy with the results. Not only do the H4 Euros provide more light than the American Sealed beam ones. I think it much safe,r cause you can see further ahead with the H4's.

I wasn't sure at first. first i thought it looked quite "ricey" but then thought that part of that was because I was comparing the before and after. If one just "saw' the car on the street, I'm thinking it might look okay. And if the lights are better in performance than I'd say it'd be worthwhile as it would have been done to IMPROVE something as compared to those retarded HID "conversions".

I think as long as you don't suddenly start adding "Lambo doors" and huge wings and DUBs and other ricer crap, then it looks fine. LOL.

Like I said, it took me a minute but I think it's not as bad as I initially thought. I do agree that the setup that black300SE suggests looks REAL nice but now that you've spent the money, hang onto what you've got.

yeah, I'd have to agree with the clear corners here. Normally I hate hate HATE them!! But the ambers look out of place with the new lights now that I look at it again.

Just be sure to get amber bulbs!!

(When I see the retards who leave white or clear bulbs in clear housings signal, I have a habit of hitting the highbeams, screw 'em! Especially ricers who do it in the tail lights. Blind me? Payback's a B****!!)
