Spending 500.00
I have a 1990 300 SEL 3.0 (172,000 miles) and have replaced vac hoses, overload relay is realativly new, plugs, fuel and air filter, shocks and tires are new. It's a nice car but it has become a severe gas hog does not want to start when cold, smells like gas if you pump it to start it when cold, feels like it's missing but plugs are clean and the tranny does not shift out of second for the first couple of minutes when cold and it is getting progressivly worse.Oh yea, when I turned on the air conditioner at freeway speed it felt like it surged and now feels like a really bad miss.
I am going to spend 500.00 this month what would you replace next? Logic would say it is a sensor of some type but which one. I don't mind paying for parts and have read just about every post on every thread but just for the hell of it what would any of you change or do with 500.00 in parts.

When were the injectors replaced (if ever)?
Why do you pump the gas (that may be why the smell)
Those cars have Bosch KE fuel injection, not carbs; I would not see the need to pump the gas when starting them

Yes, I relies that it is fuel injection.
Update since I last posted took it to a mechanic he said my fuel distributor had an internal leak? I changed the plugs and one was completly blown off (center of spark plug) put in the good Boch copper (oem) plugs still runs funky when cold. Tranny still wants to stay in second for too long.
