Question 1991 350sdl overheated head

Head overheated due to loss of coolant/radiator hose splitting. Car was driven to safety which resulted in a very overheated head. I have just removed the head. There is signs of erosion on the head surface in areas above head gasket and above water passages in block. My concern at this point is...is it worth reparing head/replacing head with rebuilt -$1900.00 or at this time (170,000 mi.) replacing the engine. I have read many of the blogs, and supposedly there is a engine that will be a very good fit, and it is a much better engine at that. I really appreciate all advice in this matter. I have a garage full of parts, and will base my decision on members past experiences. Thanks, Stanton
