thud from transmission

anyone know what is happening when occasionally you get a it of a thud and jerk from the ca changing gear, its only when your driving a bit harder than usual, as if the gear box sort of takes time to catch up with the cars momentum and then thuds as the gear engages??

any ideas..

sorry for posting so much... i'm just having so many problems....
thanks

The large rubber disc @ the rear of the transmission, connecting it to the drive shaft, as well as one @ connecting the drive shaft to the differential.

Just to add my 2 cents.... I thought there might be a problem with my transmission when I first got the car as I was not used to the heavy, delayed shift. It is, as you describe, as if you have to wait for the shift and then the car lurches into gear. I can prevent it if I take my foot of the gas and let the transmission shift. In fact if you accelerate slowly it can be very smooth. I had it checked and was told that the transmission is healthy and that this is normal for my car. I was happy to learn that I would not need a repair and I am no longer worried about the transmission failing during acceleration.

It may also be the transmission and/or motor mounts. My SEC is currently having those replaced (along with a hundred other items).
