Demon possessed cruise control
Okay so my 1989 560SEL's cruise control has become possessed. It started about 4 months ago. At first it started not engaging at all. It just stopped working. Then it started working sporadically. Then is started working but setting its own speed. Then it started working fine for a few miles then shutting off. What the heck is going on with it??

I believe there are two parts to the CC system, the actuator and the amplifier. The actuator is the part physically moving the throttle, the amplifier is the control unit, which usually goes bad.

Mine had grounding issues. Hell the whole car had grounding issues. Try simple stuff like cleaning all your fuse connections, terminal blocks, battery connection. If that does not clear it up, you are either going to need to do some diagnostics or have someone else do that.
