Stereo upgrade
I am looking for general do's and dont's on the issue of changing out the original cassette deck and speakers. I have only had the car for just over a year and listening to old cassettes has actually been OK with reasonable sound quality form the system. Recently, however, the left channel started going in and out, which is quite annoying. I know a stereo shop will be able to tell me what will fit but I am concerned that they may not get the door panels, etc. back together properly. I would also like to have the antenna fixed as the control no longer works. The antenna still goes up halfway and does return to the down when operating the radio. I would also appreciate suggestions on the best approach to repairing this.

well i have a 420 sel and i changed my original deck for a flip out dvd deck. it works perfectly didn't even need to change the speakers but i did have some problems. On W126 and many other models to install a new deck u will have to do a factory amp by pass which is going to cost around $60 and u will loss sound to one set of speakers (front dash of door speakers) but to tell u the true at long as u buy a good quality deck even thing should sound fine

What year and model do you have?
Changed out an 89 420SEL and lost none of the speakers.
I know longer use the fader nor the 2 previously installed amps.
