Cool Rims

I've been wanting to purchase new rims for my 1991 420sel but im unsure how big of a rim could fit in this car. ive taken some measurement and i think that i could put some amg 19x8.5 wheels on the car if i replace the springs in the back because the car tends to sag at the back (even though i put brand new shocks on) the wheels should fit perfectly i how any comments of sugestions?

The ride will be extremely hard (and probably unpleasant). I would not try putting more than 17" wheels on a 126.

I have a 89 420SEL running 17's. They are very nice size with great ride and handling. !9's are way over the top in size and well style. If you want anything lower it with a set of H&R's, but don't go any larger than a 17.

Unfortunatly not. I will try and get one soon. My daughter confiscated my camera and left me hers, which doesn't work.
Maybe Sunday I can clean it and get a friend to shoot a few.
I didn't lower mine though, just have the 17 AMG's on it. But it does look mean compared to the original 15's that it came with, hich look rich.

I second the 17inch comment, the ride will be too bumpy and stiff. 126 rides should be smooth and comfortable. Go for the 17inch Lorinser D93s or AMG Monoblock (5 star design). Will look a lot cleaner

nope i haven't had a single problem i get an occasional rubbing of the tires when i have 3 people in the back, i believe these wheels are 19 x 8.5 front and rear, front offset is 38+ and the rear is 35+, for the rear i put 15mm spacers from H&R... i wanted the rear rim to poke out more flush to the fender, i also had to put extended lug bolts for the rear as well...

I just put 20x8.5 with a 225/35zr-20 on my 300 SDL no spacers and they fit sexy under there. Ride is just as great as it ever was.

DAMN! 20's! put a pic up i gotta c this! ur tires must be super thin because the 19's im about to put on my car barely fit in. But then again i just realized my 420 has a lowering kit on it.

I don't want to argue, but it is impossible for a tire/wheel combination like that to give similar ride and handling characteristics to the original setup.

I would have to agree if you want to give similar ride and handing characteristics to the orginal setup, i wouldn't go bigger than 17's, but if its a bigger wheel look your after of course you will have to compromise the smooth and luxury feel that all w126's are known for, its your car, you drive it, so you have the final say... "to each, his own"

quick question without the spacers do u think u could have put a wider rim on the car like a 19x9 or even a 19x9.5? cause i want to get staggered wheels if they will fit

yes you can run a wider rim without spacers, and you can have staggered wheels with the same wheel widths on all 4 wheels by changing the offsets, my wheels are currently staggered, with the 38+ front and 35+ rear offsets but with the same widths, so more lip in the rear than the front, i'm assuming thats the look your going for

For the rear i'm sure i could of ran a 9 or 9.5 but i got a really good price on these wheels so money was the only thing holding me from getting a 9 or 9.5, i'm not sure what offset the rear wheel would be if i got a 9 or 9.5. Do some research for the rears and then you should be all set.

One of the best arguments for viewing 17 as the limit is this: even AMG back in the day did not produce any wheel larger than 17 for these cars.
