I have a 1985 280 SE 6 Cylinder grey market that is making a horrible screeching sound from within the engine housing (from a metallic chain-belt that is in the front of the engine - I don't know the name of this metallic belt (is it the timing belt?)
Would someone please tell me what is going on? The local MBz mechanic is not willing to fix the problem, and is very tight-lipped about it. All I am asking for is an honest & straight answer of what is wrong, what parts would I need to buy, and what do I need to do to install it myself.
Thanks all.

MBWorld Fanatic!
These cars have a timing chain, not a timing belt. Without the proper tools and knowledge I would not attempt to fix it myself.
