Cannot open the bonnet!

Hi all,

My car's a 1984 500 SEC, W126

I've had it off the road for a while and need to replace the battery, problem is the bonnet will not open! When I pull the release in the car the driver side pops up fine but the passenger side doesn't budge. I've tried push/ pull etc. while someone else pulls the release but to no avail.

Any ideas, I'm desperate! Seems such a simple thing but its driving me nuts!

Thanks in advance,

Les

There are 2 steps

After pulling the release inside the car, you'll have to pull the plastic insert that then sticks out from the grille, and then lift the bonnet/hood

Btw, most people in the US may not understand "bonnet".... they call it a hood around here

If I remember right, my '83 had two little release levers inside the front of the hood/bonnet that had to be pushed towards the center of the car after the inside latch was pulled. Are you sure the '84 wasn't like that?

Stuck Bonnet

Try squirting some WD-40 into the latch that is sticking. Wait and let it soak in for a while, then try again the techniques you already tried.

Good Luck.

Coupes use 2 release points
Sedans use 1 release point

Can you see the cable on the right side? If so can you try and tug on it with a pair of needle nose pliers to relase the other side.

Before doing that close the hood again on the right and than try and open again.

Love my 84 coupe.
