I would reccomend Pentosin 5w-40 synthetic, amazon has it tax and shipping included:
http://www.amazon.com/Pentosin-Perfo...1359258&sr=1-1

Mobil 1 0w-40 is also excellent, although I concerned about them taking out too many anti-wear additives to meet the new SM emissions standard, while the Pentosin keeps higher additive levels and keeps the SL rating. They are both the same price.

Molbil 1 0W40... if you use more than 1qt/1000 miles change to 15W50...

Use a top pump (Mercedes does). Several are available from Amazon. I use Mityvac 7201 Fluid Evacuator Plus that holds 8.8l, more than enough for the MB. This model also has a valve to switch so you use the same pumping action to suck the oil out of the car and then to pump the oil into another container for recycling. By top pumping you don't have to drop the plastic pieced under the engine, crawl under the car, or get the garage floor all dirty.

nrk :-)

I am assuming you are going to change all the other fluids and filters too, plus the timing chain.

420SEL with 200 k miles and you guys are telling him to use 0w40 syn or syn at all?5w40 0r 10w40 conventional oil,or it will start leaking oil like a sieve.
That old M116 needs all the old varnish build up on the gaskets it can use and using modern synthetic meant for the later engines is only going to cause issues.M116 no need to change the timing change if the timing is still on spec and not out of the range that would indicate stretch.
flush your power steering, brake fluid, radiator and service your transmission.
www.autohausaz.com has all your filters and parts.
Have fun ,enjoy the new old car.

We can agree to disagree on this one, I've changed several older engines over to synthetic, including a M117, no consumption yet.

I have two high-mileage cars on Mobil 1: 178k and 145k. No leaks.
