280SEL Twin Cam Engine

hi all, this is my first post i believe. Seldom log in here.

I m driving a W126 280SEL which i believe was not selling in Euro or US country. But i m Just wondering, does anyone knows the pros and cons of this 110 Engine which is 2.8 twin cam 12v Manual year 1982?

Its four speed only. Some frens of mine say its have high gear ratio~ I personnaly think its is better n powerful compare to those 300se which is single cam and 5 speed.

But in terms of Fuel consumption, mine is higher than single cam version. What is the optimum level for my car?

thks

and my father and i never overhaul this car since 1982~! so far this car stil running good and aint got any major problems. I m stil hitting 240km/h with this old car~

This engine have 3 layers of blocks which make overhauling it a bit difficult though. Thats one of the reason i dun wanna touch it~

Recently i m planning to turbocharge it (mayb). A guy offer me to turbocharge it to 400hp. He say my car might can stil handle that~ What do u guys think?

Nvr overhaul, piston, and conrod, driveshaft all nvr been changed! Turbocharge it???!!! i love speed. it would be cool if speeding 300km/h in this W126 i think~

Changing engine to JZ or RB would only be my choices if this current engine break down someday...

The 280 engine was very powerful, and a very good engine. I would not turbocharge it, the rest of the drivetrain cannot handle the power.

If you want better fuel consumption, you can change the differential to one with a higher gear for lower rpm.
