Want to Customize
I've got a German spec 1985 Mercedes 500 SEL I want to start customizing. I'm in the middle of an engine rebuild right now. Soon I'm going to paint it all liquid jet black, put on some black on stainless 20's, drop it a couple inches, and have my windows tinted as dark as the law will allow. I already have the interior I want in it, for the most part... the only thing I want to to it that I have no clue how is replace lights... I want new, perfectly clear headlights, and I want clear turn signals and fog lamps... where would I go to find these parts? Also, does anyone know where I can find custom tail lights? I'd love to go clear on them as well, but I haven't seen anyone with clear taillights on a 500 sel yet. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
here's what it looks like now: all stock. so boring.

Just a warning, you may get some static here for some of your ideas. But as for myself, I am a believer in fixing your car how you want it, screw the purist and haters.
As for sourcing parts, check eBay for those kinds of lights. I dont know if you will find all clear tails, but they have red and clear. If your painting black, why not go smoked tails?

true, smoke tails would look amazing. I hadn't thought of that yet. I just don't want to multicolored red/orange/faded clear tails I have now. sweet. thanks. yeah, that's an awesome idea.

I hear you on the multicolors, I am debating on wether to smoke mine or not. With a candy apple red under a few thin layers of transparent black, then cleared...it could look pretty dark and yet still shine red with the lights on.
I forgot to mention earlier, about your headlights. Is yours a 6 prong euro plug or a 4 prong US plug? I have a greymarket euro car with a 6 prong plug, but the wiring was re-configured to US lights. You may have to order new parts along with headlights, so be aware of that when sourcing what your looking for.

Personally I'm a purist, but not above doing some things once in a while to make it more interesting.
Black is good, mine's black too! Although with fresh paint your stock color is going to look just as amazing. Sorry, purist thoughts taking over, and plus its an 80's color. I wish mine was milan brown...anyway...
As long as you are happy, that is what matters. Have fun doing it!

to replace the front head lights there are 3 bolts if i remember correctly on the top of each one and there are 2 at the bottom and the whole headlight assembly comes out but rember to take the corner light out first it makes it easier im not sure about the back light but i think you have to take the back pate off them on the inside of the trunk but ur best bet is to search google about the first
