300SDL Turbo wired open?
I just bought an 87 300SDL on ebay and drove it 600 miles home. Drive train seems good but VERY poor power output. No blow-by noted cold or at op temp, starts right up. Loud at idle but quiets right off idle and runs smooth. No power, it was obvious to me on the drive home that the turbo was offering little or no boost.
WHY, why I ask, would someone wire the wastegate open with utility wire? is there something Im missing here? this defies explaination, Im resisting the urge to cut it and test drive, there must be something I dont know about this turbo system? Im not sure but I think I have seen this done on another diesel but I cant immagine why?
Maybe not relavant but there is a bit of "loudness" from the front of the engine at idle, sounds like a really loud tapping but goes away right off idle, under load or not. Timing chain make noise like this?
Thanks for responses.
