Trying to find a new set of wheels (rims), need help...

I have a 1991 300se that has an aftermarket set of 17" chrome wheels that are real nice, but one has developed a couple of small cracks. Either I pay someone to repair the crack and keep this set, or start looking for another set of wheels. I found another set of nice 15" wheels that have an ET38 stamped on them, my spare which is still a stock wheel for this car has a ET21.5 stamped on it. So is the offset too much? Is there an acceptable range that will work on the 15" wheels? Is there a chart that will give me the acceptable ranges for 15, 16 & 17" wheels, or does anyone know what I can use?

Thanks a bunch.

Or, does anyone know a cheap place to repair the cracks that does good work? The cracks are on the inside, so you can't see them unless you take the tire off the car, so repairing them doesn't need to be super pretty, since it won't be seen.

I think ET 10-25 work best. I have a set of BBS Mahle 16" basketweaves with 85% tread on Conti tires I may sale. Wheels need refinishing but they hold air just fine and fit like a glove. I wasn't going to sale them, but I could always use money. $500 as-is if your interested, and I am out in Port Angeles, WA.

Thanks for the info, I just bought a set of wheels last night, they should fit, but now I need to find some longer bolts. The ones that came with the car are not stock, and are really too short for the stock spare (which I can get in a little over 3 turns on) The same bolts just are slightly past flush on the new rims, so I now need to find some bolts that are long enough for the new rims. Aurora Auto Wrecking didn't have much for me. But they were able to identify the new wheels as coming from a W140. He suggested I go to Les Schwab, but they only found something barely longer. Went to Napa, but they could only find something based on what the car originally came with, which was a little bigger still, but still not what I wanted. The wheels that came with the car (aftermarket) had an offset of 35, the new wheels have an offset of 38, but it is surprising the length of the bolt is so much different. Guess I have a lot of learning to do about MB cars.

Anyone else have a suggestion on where to find bolts that are about 1 5/8 to 1 3/4" long on the thread? Alas, now I am back to more research, or should I repost a new thread now that I am looking for bolt help now?

Ok, did my research on longer bolts, found them on ebay. Wow, what a great selection they have, just about any length you want. Very reasonable too, $41.49 for a whole chromed set of 20 shipped to me via priority post.

39mm? Did you make sure to buy the right seat, meaning ball or cone?

Ya, I had cone seat bolts before, and the new ones also had cone seats. Depending on the length you wanted, the place on ebay sells either cone or ball, and in some lengths you can get either, some you can only get one style. For the length I wanted, cone was only available. I just didn't want to get them too long. 45mm bolts should just be long enough to get through all the threads in the hub.
