560SEL Rear Suspension Problem

Hi I have a 1987 560SEL with a problem. When the car is stationary, the driver side rear is 1 1/2 to 2" lower than the passenger side. I've replaced the sphere and the shock absorber with no success. Could the coil spring be bad? Are there spacers in the coil spring the limit compression?

Thanks for any input.

I've had this same situation with my 560SEL... The whole D/S was 1" lower than the passenger side.. I replaced the hydro rams as well as the spheres (due to pogo effect), rear springs were new as per previous owner but nothing. I even flushed and bled the system F-R, the car still sat uneven. I decided to yank out the SLS completely sans the lines running front to back, (VERY MESSY) and put HD shocks and springs... Now the car sits evenly in the rear.. IMO I love the ride with standard performance shocks/springs setup...

I replaced the rear coil spring on the drivers side. The new spring was about 1" taller than the uncompressed height of the old spring. The rear is very close to level now, but the height of the rear end is not consistent. The ride is much better.

I'm suprised to hear that but then again with the weight of the car in addition to the age of the spring, They can and will sag especially if original..

I know what you mean with the inconsisetency hence scrapping the SLS notion all together on the SEL.. Granted my 91' 560SEC still runs the SLS and the ride is taught and predictable.

Most times its the springs that are sagging at diffrent rate but if you replaced the springs and its still unlevel you can mix and match the mercedes spring pads to get the correct level.....
