on the hunt for mercedes, wish me luck
Happy new year, new guy here just starting the adventure of aquiring a used 300D, SD, or TD. Looked at a TD that hasn't been started since 1992, passed on it. The guy couldn't decide on a price, I probably would pass even if it was free. Looked at an '83 yesterday, dealer wanted $3900, 4 of 5 injectors were leaking profusely, bottom of the car covered in oil, passed on that one ;<) Am not interested in a project car, or paying a $20K premium for a restored one, something inbetween. Its interesting what ads say: crazy fuel mileage claims, vegetable oil doo-dads, just broken in at 250,000 miles, rare color, rare this , rare that, geez. This will be an adventure for sure, but I'm determined to find a nice one in the $4K to $5K range.

Good luck in your search.
Yes it's true that they are rare (almost 30 years old now) and they are just being broke in at 250.000 miles. (they are MBZ diesels)
The best thing you can do is, try to find one with a good body and electrical functions.
