1989 420 SEL

Transmission, Won't down shift

I bought an 89 420 SEL and it had been running great. Today I could not get the car to go in reverse, After a time, It managed it.

Now the car seems not to be downshifting. Once I get above 25 mph the car will not start from a stop. the only thing I can find that works is turning the car off and back on. and then again once I stop the car refuses to move.

I am good enough at following service manuals but is this something I should just go to AAMCO for.
