Manuals

Factory manuals are readily available on CD-ROM.

I just ordered one for my 86 560SEL from MBUSA. Their phone number is 1-800-367-6372. Hope this would help.

It is the paper owner manual that the dealer lost when the car was in service ages ago. Since it was my parent's car and nobody bothered to order or at least demand a replacement. Well, when I went to them, they denied they lost it and the service manager who worked on that day had left da da da...BS. And now the car is passed down to me and I wanted one and asked around and sent MBUSA an e-mail and they replied saying pretty much call us and see stuff. So I called and they said they have it on stock so I ordered one. Think it was twenty something bucks for the reprint and I will get it in 7 days, they said.

the one that I purchased from ebay seems to be pretty good! I haven't gone through too much of it but it seems to have everything covered.

Hehehe, you only need it when there is something wrong, right? I just think the booklet would be handy if I am on the road when the 'unthinkable' happened and needed a quick look for some answers.

Yes, I was only teasing you. Sorry. I was thinking about the CD version too. But the more I thought about it, the more I decided not to get it. That would mean I'd need a notebook computer to put it next to the car. I don't want to spend the money just for that purpose. If there is a major parts need repaired? I'd take it to the pro. The guy in town has been taking care of my cars for years so far I am pretty happy with his works.

The reproduction manual arrived today. It looks just like the original except the word, Reproduction is on the cover. Inside, you can tell it is reproduction because the pages are not shinny like the original. But nevertheless, it's good to have one back in the car. Now I have to go to Staples and find a little carrier for the manual and the service booklet.

I purchased the 126 CD from MB. I must say I was disapointed! While we may call it a shop manual, MB does not. They call it a repair manual. It does not cover all operations which they deem to be too complicated for the user. For those operations the user "should take the car to an authorized Mercedes service center." Operations such as removal and replacement of the transmission are not covered. I spoke with the Mercedes publications representative at some length about this. I was able to get more information from Alldatadiy.com for $24.95 a year (and only $14.95 for a renewal).

1985 380SE
I would like to revive this topic for 2010. As of today, where is the best place to find a paper copy of a shop manual for an '85 380SE? Thanks.

Yes you can download various workshop service and repair manuals for the W126 models here http://mbmanuals.com/100-series/mb-126-w126/
