85 380SE won't idle with ICV connected
Just acquired a 1985 380SE european model, and at first it wouldn't maintain an idle without giving it gas. i'm just getting started and poked around a bit today--disconnected the power to the idle control valve, and now it idles at about 1000-1100 rpm just fine and runs smooth. (this seems like it may be too high, and i'm concerned that i won't be able to pass california smog with the valve disabled.)
if i reconnect the ICV while it's running, it kills the engine.
i sprayed out the inside of the valve with some aerosol carburator cleaner until it ran through clean, but have not yet attempted to disassemble the valve. found another thread where someone explained how to do that, so i'll try that tomorrow.
one of the vacuum lines going to the hoses the valve connects to seems loose and is probably leaking, so i'll also try sealing those up. could that be a cause?
she really is a beauty and right now this seems to be her only problem, despite 315k on the odo (i'm told 100k on the engine rebuild), so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
