Is this a good price?

Looking at a 1991 300SEL for sale at a local dealership. Just from looking at the pictures of it online, it looks immaculate! The carfax report shows no problems. It only has 89,000 miles on it and they are asking $6995.

Should I jump on that price or offer maybe $5995?

What is a fair price in your opinion. I mean this car looks spotless!

Not to be a cynic, but as a guy that's bought and sold more than 150 W126's, they all can look immaculate online.

Schedule a pre-pruchase inspection at a shop near the seller that knows these cars well, get a recommendation from the forum if possible. Then if it gets a decent report, target $5K and if paint and body are original, interior excellent, mechanicals good, be willing to go up to your $5995.

Keep in mind these cars, especially the SEL 300's, are a bit underpowered and are geared short to compensate. So they rev high on the highway, and make sure you are OK with that.

Thanks Bruce. Yeah, I just read that the 300SEL only has 177 horsepower. My E350 has almost 270 horspower, so I can only imagine the 0-60 time......lol.

But thats ok. I'm not out to race it or anything. I'm ok with it being underpowered and slow. I just love the body style and the way it looks.

Thanks for your input

If you're not too far from Lilburn, or the dealership isn't, or you can somehow get him to look it over, contact Jonathan Hodgman, owner of Blue Ridge MB, for the PPI.

He's a wizard with the W126's, tell him Bruce recommended you. He's at 404-805-1357.

Thanks Bruce. I will definitely bring it to him (or whatever MB I decide to purchase). I was looking for a good independent MB shop anyway. He is not that far from where I live.....maybe 10 miles or so.
