Wheel finish

My 560 has the stock wheels. I noticed today one of them is "flaking", there is a thin, white, almost paper-like material coming off. The surface that's left underneath looks fine, normal, though. This is only on one wheel and it just started. I keep these wheels very clean regularly and even polish and wax them. What is going on?? Thanks

Maybe it was refinished in a clearcoat what didn't bond correctly to what is under it, or it is a clearcoat that has no UV protection and shouldn't have been used for wheels-- then the sun just eats away at it until just flakes off like a dead skin.
