Please help with fuel pump problem Thanks!

I have a 89 560 sec. Died while curing down the highway at 55mph. No sing of life from fuel pump, so I changed it with one I took from a 88 420sel that I parted out. I heard the engine in that car run, so figured the pump was good. After changing the car still would not start. So I went to basics, removed air cleaner and powered in some gas. Car stared right up and ran fine until the gas I pored in ran out. So I figured it is a fuel problem. Next I take a battery and some wire under the car and jump the fuel pump. Both pumps work fine with jump. Then I decided to jump the pump that I had just taken out of car, one pump worked fine the other not at all. Yet buy turning ignition key to on position or even cranking engine over the pumps I put on the car are dead as a door nail. I have 2 complete parts car an 86, and 88 560 sel, that ran and drove when I parked them in the back about 8 months ago. I figured it must be the fuel relay, so I will just take one off the parts car and try it. Just one problem. I don't know where the fuel relay is or what it looks like, or any kind of parts numbers to be looking for. Any help getting my baby back on the road, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Will PS there is 3/4 of a tank of fuel
