1985 Mercedes 500 SEL
85 MB 500sel will not stay running

The issue began with the car running good, then started a up and down idling for a couple weeks, even though the car would run fine when giving it the gas. But then one day, I barely got out of the driveway, stopped the car to close the gate, and the car stopped dead, and would not start at all.

I replaced the idle speed control unit, fuel pump relay, coil, cap, rotor, and electronic ignition module. The Over-voltage Relay checked out ok, and have good pressure from fuel pump. Pulled valve covers, checked timing marks on left and right side sprockets, marks were correct, and timing mark on balancer was right on (IF the little stud in the balancer is the (correct) dead-center mark, which is beyond the degree marks like normal cars for timing).

Car tries to start but will not continue to run. I squirted some starting fluid in intake chamber and car will run as long as spraying continues (although I keep it short to not harm engine). It appears something electronic is keeping it from running normally. Checked Idle Speed Adjuster Solenoid and no power at coupling, checked wiring back, all ok. HELP NEEDED

your Ht & compression should be good or else u would not run on ether.
fuel pressure could be not there,
see if u can loosen the fuel line see if u got pressure, but u need to be very careful, ask someone to guard around with fire extinguisher!
Or u want her to be up in smoke then u can collect on ins. same u more griefs.

idle control valve,or possibly auxiliary air valve.
