85 500sel stalling on acceleration
I had some recent work done on my MB as it quit running one day, and would not start again. Had to replace fuel filter, and because it could not be adjusted through the small hole on top and at front of the fuel distributor due to the allen wrench extension inside being rounded off, when pushed in and turned, nothing was being adjusted. The mechanic removed the small tower where the allen wrench went in, removed the rounded piece, and left the hole open where we inserted a rubber plug to keep objects out. After he made some adjustment to the delivery screw the car was once again starting and running smooth.
With the hole left open the car will idle slower and rougher, and when I accelerate at around 20mph the engine stalls a bit. When I let it get up to 40 then step on it, it does not stall, but runs fine.But here is where it gets strange. If I plug the little hole the car idles faster and smooth. And does not try to stall when accelerating at 20mph, not until I get up to 40-60mph, then step on it and it stalls at the higher speeds.
So I figure there is something about the adjustment that is different with the hole plugged compared to the hole open. Anybody got a clue what I need to do to remedy this? Should that open hole be sealed off or not?
