85 500sel running sluggish

Hello all,

Looking for tech advise on my 85 500 again. I recently changed the timing chain, cam gears and upper rails. Here is the situation. Since i finished the job the car now runs and idles smooth , like new but now has no power as in horse power. Running at 65 mph she struggles to keep pace up hill. The best way I can explain is it feels like I'm driving with the e brake on. And forget it if input the air cond on.

Here is the specs I am at now.

Ign timing -TDC set with vac advance disconnect at idle
Cam (s) set at tdc all marks line up ( hand turned and triple checked)
Idle - 500 rpm smooth as silk
Fuel distributed not adjusted
New plugs(Bosch),wires,rotor
87 octane gas with marvel mystery oil

Dash vacume gauge from park to drive is steady with a slight bump going into gear.

I can pedal to the metal and it she feels beyond sluggish.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

Here are some general things to check...

Be sure the plugs and wires are the correct type for your Mercedes - i.e. Not resistor.

Check for vacuum leaks. The economy gauge should be all the way to the left on the white line at idle (that gauge is just a vacuum gauge).

Then check the Lambda. That is the rich/lean adjustment.

Be sure the vacuum line is going to the EZL and has vacuum (no leaks on the way there). That would adjust vacuum advance and retard for spark.

And check fuel pressure and volume (that it has the flow it should have).

Thanks for the links...huge help. I did check for vacume leaks today. Found one on the backside of the manifold directly behind the fuel dist. Looks like a vac dash pot/actuator or something.

So she won't run now. Just idle. Any throttle and it stalls.

Has developed positive crankcase pressure.
All this has been sudden.

I'm thinking clogged cats? Any ideas?

All of a sudden my Eco gauge is halfway to right. Massive vac leak?
I sprayed all hoses can find a leak.

Advise?

I would do a compression test on each cylinder.
