1990 126 Auto climate control Tech advice needed
Hello,
I have read where intermittent climate control problems can be caused by faulty solder joints in the climate control box.
I have a 1990 300SE and it has many climate control problems that appear briefly then go away. Well now I have a bigger problem. The fan does not seem to work. It is hot but the blower does not come on at any speed or setting. This has happened in the past but it would always start to work soon after.
The control box I have is P/N 126 830 10 58
There is only 1 PC board in it, not 3 like some others have mentioned. What solder joints and or components should I check out?
Maybe I have another problem?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

If the problem does not exist in the control unit, the blower motor regulator may be to blame. It is located inside the heater box in the fresh air stream.

The heater box is behind the center console. You access the regulator from the fresh air intake grille under the windshield. I'm not sure how to remove the grille; that job is missing from the shop manual.

Hey Cam69ss,
I have a similar problem. All was well with my system except the AC did not work. I have a used compressor but have not put it in yet. A couple of years ago, I replaced the blower motor fan and all was well. A month ago, my fan stopped working. I have since replaced the blower motor, blower motor controller and ACC controller with used parts from the junkyard. I have tried them in combination and nothing seem to make the motor work. When I rotate the temp wheel on the ACC, I can hear the vents switching. Even without the fan running previously (the one I replaced), I still got heat out of the vent when moving. Now with this fan problem, I don't. I'm not sure what is going on but do not believe it is any of the major components since I have itterated through all of them and the problem still exists. There are a couple of temp sensors but I would not think that would cause this extensive an interruption in service. One strange thing has occured three times. On cool mornings, after the car has been sitting for a week, with all the buttons on the ACC in the off position, the fan has started to run on high. As soon as I touched any button on the system, it would stop. I know the fan is good and have tried substitutions on both controllers but can't figure it out. Does anyone out there have any wisdom on this issue?

It does sound like the climate control unit.
I had a similar experience with my 1989 420SEL, when I purchased it.
The fan would work and then cut out. I had the blower fuse checked, and it was ok. I tried a new climate unit in it and no problems since. That was 5 years ago.
I never hear of these guys on this list but Beckman Industries in the Carolinas did a good and reasonably priced job of rebuilding electrical units for my, now gone, BMW and my Benz's.
