Like New '84 300 SD Turbodiesel but???
The exterior is immaculate with only a minor dent in the rear bumper. The interior is a little rough and the drivers seat will need to be reupholstered, (not sure if it's leather or some other material) but I can live with it for now. The horn doesn't work and the tachometer is flaky but everything else works, (sunroof, electric seats, A/C, radio, etc).
Now for the bad??? news... The engine has 330,000 miles on it. He has all the service records from the day he bought it and it looks like it's been well maintained, (serviced religiously every 3,000 miles). It has new brakes on all 4 corners and 4 new Michelins that he purchased last year.
Should I take my chances and purchase the car or would it be better to pass on this one. How many miles can I expect to get out of this motor before I'm looking at big $$$ to have it rebuilt?
All the Best!
Chuck
There will be expense along the way but the math is good.
To be sure the engine was properly maintained check the top of the ALDA capsule on backside of IP with small hose running to banjo bolt on the back end of rocker cover.
If the top is smooth your good. If the aluminum skin is broken and the adjusting screw exposed then some halfwit has been at it. Test compression in all cylinders if tampering evident. The ALDA capsule serves two purposes. It helps control the amount of fuel your engine gets at higher altitude to prevent smog production but more importantly it is part of your overboost protection for the turbo. A little research here will go far.
You could be onto a very good sedan at a very good price.
