1989 300SE upgrades?
just wondering what performance parts are readily available for the dog I-6 in this model, as well as what sort of low-buck hop-ups can be done that *aren't* sold.
what about swapping a OD auto tranny into it? current tranny's the 3 spd non-OD dog.
turbos/superchargers?

Actually, its a 4 speed tranny. The car starts in 2nd gear.
In 4th gear the speed should be 1/2 of the RPMs.
There are twin turbo kits around, not sure if they are still available or if they don't cause damage to the engine. Go find some octane booster and put 93 octane in the tank, it makes it a bit peppier.

.... yes they do start in 2nd gear. My '88 300SE always churps when I really plant my foot but not straight away. I think it changes back to 1st from 2nd after about 30 metres or so. I use Premium fuel with about 97 octane and get 22-23 MPG around town driving in "D" with the cruise on mostly (avoids those radar guns etc.,). This MPG figure is based our old Aussie gallons i.e. 4.54 litres to 1 gallon / 1.61 km to 1 mile.
