1990 500SL / 1989 560 SEC
Angry Value battle with Insurance company!

I had a 1986 560 SEC AMG body Euro. 160,000 KM and in great shape! I wouldn't say perfect, but was in awsome condtion.

The insurance company is offering me $10,000CDN/$7,300US including taxes.

Whats the most you think I may be able to pull outta them???? Any hints on how to get proof of a hgiher value on the car. They are basing the price on U.S spec non AMG cars and on whats out there. :|

That's about what I'd expect them to offer. AMG means nothing to insurance company's on pre '94 cars (before AMG and Daimler got together.) Plus your car is just the body kit which means crap to insurance adjusters. Unless you up the ante and insure your car for additional worth you're looking at stock 560 values. Its like a Honda guy trying to get more because he had a body kit. Ain't gonna happen. Try to squeeze more of course but I wouldn't expect much.

S600 Coupe. 560SEC, E55
What did you pay for the car and when? That will have some bearing on the price. I would also check autotrader etc to establish a replacement price. They have to pay replacement value.

To replace this car, I would need at least $20G's CDN to buy another one which is what I am hoping to do.

Isn't $20K CDN over $14K U.S.? Didn't you pay between $5-$7K for that car from your previous posts? $14-$15K U.S. will buy you a 1991, the final production year, with under 100K miles.

I don't really wanan settle for a base looking 560 SEC U.S model. I've notcied that here in Vancouver the Euro's are selling for quite a bit more coinage.

I have seen 3 88, Euro, AMG body/rims for sell all between $20,000 = $22,000. Non AMG Euro 's are selling for around $14,000 = $17,000. So there is actually a price differnce for the AMG tuned cars.

If i could find another 86 car exactly like mine, I would hgily doubt I would end up paying wha tI payed before. What I payed before was fluke. The insurance company is already offereing $3000+ more than I had already payed for the car. :| But, I wanan replace it which is just not goign to happen with $10G's.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
That being the case...

you should have insured it for stated value. If you think it's that special now, you must have thought so then. Sorry, this one's going to be tough for you. Things may be different in Canada, but I'm a US lawyer who spends his days trying to get pennies out of insurance companies, and it gets more difficult by the day. You can try asking them to bring you another one. That might put them on the run a bit, but not much. Nothing against your car, as the 126 coupe was a super nice one, but it's still a 19 year old, non US spec car, and with 100k miles, that sounds like a bunch to me. How about they up their offer a bit and you keep the salvage?

1990 560 SEC (modified), SLK55, CLK500
I agree with what's been said. The body kit may actually decrease appraised value if it isn't original AMG parts with RECEIPT! I had a 420 SEL with a SEC front on it, and since i couldn't prove it increased resale value, the $8000 I spent on the modification and paint didn't count at all.

Also, stock 86 560 SEC with 160000 km is pretty used. Mechanically worthless in the eyes of the adjusters.

seriously, i have gone through this process, i don't expect to get back even a third of what i have spent in my SEC if anything should ever happen to it.

If you REALLY are going to stick with it, bring in all the ads of cars that are same year, and similar mileage, and make them pay you the average amount, so you can buy one of the vehicles. It raised the appraised value of my 420 slightly (less than 60 k miles when totaled, and was immaculate).

My car was an original AMG vehicle. Everything on the car was stock from the factory. Had all the AMG goodies minus the engine. I have enough adds from all over North America to prove that the vehicle is worth more than what the yare offering me.

THey're offering me $7,600 USD including taxes. I have a local add here for another US spec rust bucket POS with 160K Miles on it selling for the same price. I have tons of adds, but the insurance company is goign to try and hit me with wanting to see just local adds, but yet the car is so rare that there are only 3 of them i nthe province like this and mine being the only 86 AMG that it's next to impossible to find more local adds. Ican however sue the other party for loss of vehicle value apparently is what my lawyer has told me. I would be very pleased with $12,700 USD including taxes for the car however.

But the insurance company won't consider the AMG stuff unless you have the invoice or receipt (maybe request it from AMG?). Also, 88 and 86 is a pretty big difference, both in terms of mileage and because 87 was the model upgrade year. Furthermore, the 3 other cars have probably NOT been sold, which would demonstrate market price, afterall, someone might advertise a 1983 250000 mile 380 SEC for $100000, but that doesn't give any indication whatsoever as to the market price.

Good luck, and obviously i hope you get the amount you want.

The basically want at least 4 ads from local vehicles being the EXACT same models. I recently just spoke with a new company that is importing TWINS to my car in BC and he said my vehicle is worth at least $15+ CDN. I'm goign to get him to write me a letter.
