1990 560 SEL Worth to BUY?
Greetings!
I am thinking of purchasing a 1990 560 SEL.
1. Current Mileage: 95,500
2. Price: $16,995 (It was more than $21,000 last month)
3. Color: Black and Gray combo
There were some problems I found while I was taking a test drive today.
1. Front reading/vanity mirror light not working
2. Radio is not working
3. The clock (on the dashboard) is not working
4. Steering wheel vibration on the highway brake engagement (Rotors and brake pads! Ouch!)
5. Dark amber engine oil color (I checked the deep sticks)
So, I think that I can negotiate the price. When I looked at this car, the surface was spotless without rust. Also, the engine bay did not have rust.

So just an idea for number 1, 2 and 3.
Check the fuse.
On my W126 diesel the clock, radio and courtesy light are on the same fuse.
Have not had a W126 gas model but am on my second '91 350SDL. Great ride on the highway.

OP FWIW there is not a more expensive car then a cheap Mercedes.
Your 126 car will have consistent annoying issues that are all easily resolved if you are mechanically inclined.
5.6 is most power in a 126. In it’s day. Nowadays we can have a Camry that gets to sixty in six seconds. My ‘92 500E took six seconds.
The four speed automatic is a known quantity. When it slips in reverse you’ll get to replace the band in the box. Pretty easy on a hoist.
HVAC was lousy back then. The A/C compressor will be weak. Always are. Replace it with one intended for 134-A.
