grey market 500sel
in 85 my parent purchased a 500sel grey market. when it was brouhgt over i know it had to go thru some sort of conversion. though i believe we didnt change the bumpers, mine are still the short ones, and we didnt change the euro lights, would they have detuned the engine, as if it was one purchased here. i hope not. i hope it still has about 240hp. it feels like it does
also what was the US price in 1985 for a 500sel
any why do the euro cars sit hiegher than american ones???

Prices depended on options obviously. The Euro cars were much cheaper than the US cars because: 1) Euro dealers were fine with lower profit margins 2) M-B prestige status was higher in the US than in Europe 3) The US dealers had very huge profit margins 4) The US cars were always loaded up.
US cars came standard with an airbag, ABS, heated seats all around, power rear seat. Euro cars came standard with none of those. It is difficult to compare their prices. For instance, my Euro 500SEL doesn't have power or heated rear seats, whereas ALL US 500SELs had those features.
