89 420 SEL and 97 E320
anyone change a water pump on 420SEL?

How do you get to the bottom bolt on the water pump without removing the $*%^(#*% fanbelt pulley?

Well, it's done

Ended up having to remove the bolt on the dampener and pulled it out about 3 inches to have access to that bottom bolt - this was after pulling the alternator so that I had room to put my hand in there!

Amazingly enough, the reinstall went VERY smoothly - it took me about 3 hours to disassemble and remove the old pump, and about 1.5 to put it all back together again. Go figure.

Glad you had it done successfuly. It's always the hardest the first time. Once you figured it out, next time it would be easier.
