2 quick questions

Any ideas why my '88-300-SEL is burning so much gas? Not new issue.
Is it okay to use oil for older cars or heavier weight oil? (178,000 miles)

Well it is a big car with a small engine, you will burn some fuel. What kind of mileage and what kind of driving are you doing.

Oil queston's are a hot topic on most MB forums. Lets put it this way anything like 10w-40, 15w-50, 20w-50 ect will work fine. No 5w30, 10w30, 0w20 ect oils, these are old engines they need a 40 weight or more. A lot of people like the 0w-40, I don't think a 0w oil is a good idea for older engines.

a Few Nice cars.
O2 Sensor could be out or a Camshaft problem,my 94 s500 is drinking gas like crazy right now due to a bad Camshaft selinoid. hole in muffler will do it to or dirty fuel filter..a number of things, might also be that your 300sel is a big car with small engine like Hatta said, time for a tune up?..just poke around with it..but remember enjoy it too!
