Towing with a 126?
Has anyone here done any towing with a 126? I have a '89 560 SEL that will be getting a hitch for use with a bike rack and a light utility trailer.
Does anyone know the practical towing limits?
Any recommendations on a receiver hitch?

1987 300SDL aka the "Money Pit"
I want to get a hitch for my SDL to tow my 14ft aluminum boat to the lakes. I know someone who has towed with his 300SD for years, just keep it to light trailers. I wouldn't want to pull more then say 500 pounds but I don't know the exact limit. My boat with the motor and trailer is probably 400 pounds wet, all of the other gear is kept in the trunk to prevent theft.

MBWorld Fanatic!
my father towed a motorcycle trailor behind my 300 before he gave me the car, and it seems to have taken it without incident. i protested at the time, just on principle, but to no avail.

I've towed quite a bit w/ my SEL, worked wonderfully w/ the Self leveling suspension. I use an 8 foot utility trailer, a couple times moving furniture, otherwise I tow my dirt bike w/ it.
Just be kind to the transmission with the extra load!

I'd just make sure that you get the hitch installed at a Mercedes dealer or one of the authorized shops, or at least someong who has alot of experience with them. They could tell the max tow weight better than Uhaul or some other place. Also, you might want to get a tow ball that is one grade lower than your max, so that if you overload by accident, it's the towball that takes the damage, not your car.
