96+ Taillights on a 92 300se

Does anyone know if the newer taillights (the one where the indicator is white instead of yellow) that are found on the 96+ w140's would fit on a 92 300se? I was told that the older style are a different shape, and from looking at it, the new one seem three piece while the old ones seem like one large integrated part.

Any help would be appreciated!

If you look carefully, the plastic is different, and so is the shape of the trunk lid (rounded) there have been people who had the trunk lid reshaped and purchased all the stuff, the trunk liner and the light housing is also different

I see. It appears then, this mod would be a little bit more involved then just a plug and play type device.

Thanks!

Well then, one other question. I find that the light output on my headlights seems rather dull (even though I am using Sylvannia Silverstar bulbs). Is there any difference with using a headlight assembly from one of the newer year models as well? I keep on reading that there is a Euro-Spec headlight system where the lense is more of a clear or 'crystal' type allowing for more light to pass through. The way I see it, as long as it is a reflector headlight system as opposed to a projector and its a ribbed lense, it makes it more challenging.

i too was thinking the same thing and it seems like the crystal clear headlights will allow more light output. i was thinking about using Eurolite xenon bulbs and doing both the headlight bulbs along with the foglight bulbs (b/c i normally use both at same time) so if i had matching bulbs with simultaneous usage it would be much better (and bluer) light output than regular. unfortunately new headlights are $$$.

There are basically three types of headlights offered on the W140 in the US.

The first generation (92-95 early) has the foglights between the headlight and grill and are yellow. This unit uses a 9004 (high/low) bulb, which is probably the worst bulb made for automotive lighting due to the filament beind perpendicular to the light path.

The second generation (96-99) is a vast improvement over the previous model and has the foglight beneath the low beam and the high beam next to the grill. This unit uses the better-designed bulbs and a more aggresive lens. I have a set of these if you want to buy them, just make me an offer via PM.

The third generation is the real deal, Xenon. I was fortunate to find a pair of factory Xenon's on eBay for $600, in my book they win hands down. The high beams and fogs are the same as the second gen units and work quite well.

I was actually looking for a pair of xenon lenses, but they are hard to come by. Furthermore, didn't you have to change some wiring or something that powered the old halogen headlights when installing the xenon. I know that they usually come with a ballast, ignitor, etc., and that they can be converted, but I heard it puts more strain on your headlight system if it wasn't originally intended to house HID lighting.

I find with my bulbs right now that they seem to blow a lot. Already on my second pair of Silverstar's in about 4 months. I'm trying to troubleshoot and see if its the bulbs (which I doubt) or what it could be with the vehicle.
