I have been trying to find out some of the standard and optional equipment on the '95 through '97 S500 and have gotten some contradictory information. More specifically, were rear reclining seats and rear sunshades standard or optional during these years? Also, anyone know of any good information sites for these years?

In response to the discussions of which S-Class is the best I find the W-140 the most appealing. I must say I am a bit disappointed in the W-220's exterior looks. The W-140 was a very intimidating car, it took control of the road and other drivers got out of your way. In essence, everyone knew an S-Class was rolling down the highway. The W-220 kinda gets lost in the crowd, resembling too much like other cars (i.e. Lincoln Continental), a trait the w-140 did not share.

I agree with your observations on the W140 and W220 body styles. Did you look at www.mbusa.com Web site for information on the S-500. It has a 10 or 11 year model history. Also, you can look up other Car sites such as www.edmunds.com or www.kbb.com to research the features on the S-class for a particular year. Hope this helps.

I have a 97 S500 sedan. The rear sunshade is an option with the docking phone and parktronic. I agree also. the new body style sucks. There made like the ML430 i have. But i wont have it for long. Later Sam

In 1996 they upgraded the climate control unit with an LED layout. The rear sunshade/parktronic/power rear seats/phone/cd changer were an option on the 320,420,and 500. The S600 comes with standard with those options and gets heated rear seats, separate rear air conditioning unit (can be controlled by rear passengers), and 4 passenger seating. In 1997 the body molding was painted body color and the standard issue 16X8 wheels changed designs; the rear tail lights were changed as well. In 1997 the keyless entry FOB was also upgraded. My .02$
