Smile First W140: 92 500SEL

My boss sold me his '92 500SEL today for $10K. Maybe I paid too much? 126K miles, but quite clean, and he is one to have everything working right, so it may be some time before I start getting those hyper-inflated maintenance bills.

New paint job, shocks, tires, brakes, the double-paned glass, 10-disk Becker changer, perfect leather -

There's a brake fluid leak somewhere up front (under the accumulator(?), but he's going to fix it for the price, and get the wheels lined up also.

Our library has access to an on-line copy of the repair manual, so I should be covered for any minor repairs/diagnostics that I might need. I guess it'd be good to start looking for a good tech.

I was worried about all the expensive-sounding problems people were haviing with the '92 W140, it being the first of its line, but this was one opportunity I did not want to pass up...

Comments? Suggestions?

congrats!!! Many of the bugs were worked out by the time the W140 hit our shores in 1992 because Europe had them since mid 1991. Plus that engine had been tested in the 1990+ 500 SL, and is a very potent powerplant. Just keep up the proper maintenance and it will run forever. Make sure to find out what type of oil he was running in it. You cannot switch to synethetic if it was running on Dino oil for 126K. Best of luck to you!!

Found out it is not brake fluid but hydraulic fluid for the shocks. When the shocks were replaced, they re-filled the fluid, and the leak appeared. Hope it's just a hose or connector leak.
