Right Rear Window inoperable - Help

I've lurked on this board for a few months now, but now I need to join to request some help. BTW.. this forum was great in helping me to decide to purchase my S.

A couple of days ago, we were on our way back from dinner with some friends. A friend in the back seat pushed the auto power up switch on the rear door, and the window went all the way to the top. Just as it got to the top, there was a loud pop noise that came from inside the door panel.

I tried to lower the window with the front seat master switch, and it lowered down about 1/4 of the way down, which was all that I held the switch for. When I tried to power it back up, nothing. It just stopped where it was and wouldn't move. You could hear the motor, but there was no movement.

Parked the car in the garage for a few days (not the daily driver). I removed the door panel to investigate, and at the bottom of the inside of the door were three pieces of white plastic. Put together, they formed almost all of a circular plastic piece that was white in color and approx 3" in diameter. Another piece was still missing, it wasn't at the bottom of the inside of the door. At this point, after some more testing of the motor, the window is now all the way down and will not come up at all.

So after all that description, my question is this. Does anyone know what this white circular piece of plastic is? Can I purchase this piece seperately? Do I need to purchase a new regulator or new motor (or both)? THe motor still works (or so it seems, I can hear it running).. it just won't raise the window.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

same thing happened to me. the guides for the cables are plastic and sometimes they break and as a result the metal cable gets out of line so you hear the motor moving but nothing happens. I ended up replacing the guides and window works great since.

same thing happened to me on the same window.
i had my mechanic friend that specialises in audi and VW fix it.
he used some other car parts to replace that plastic piece, i guess it's a common problem on this car, and some parts are interchangable.
look for a used part if you can, new assembly from the dealer is to much $$$$$
