Unhappy S CLASS Servicing

I have recently lost faith in the integrity of my MB dealership after I took my car in for servicing. I have had no problems at all until recently when I noticed the following fault: The car starts fine every time and away I go. The car moves away in 1st and smoothly into second however as it reaches 3rd is over revs for about 100 yards. After this it goes into 3rd and it's fine from there on. If I come back to the car within say 2 hours it's fine but leave it overnight and it does the same thing.

I took the car to my local MB dealership who suggested changing the gearbox oil which they did. This has not however made a difference. The oil level is obviously good having been changed but the problem remains. No abvious oil loss and engine pressure is always good.

I just wondered if there were any techies out there that have had this problem. I feel everytime I take the car in for servicing that they are guessing rather than knowing.

Car is S280 (W140) 1996.

S Class servicing

Supercon,

just a thought. The autobox will not change up until the catalytic converter has warmed up.... it`s programmed to do that to protect the cat. With my S280 it pulls away in 2nd stays in 2nd for maybe half a mile and then slips into 3rd and then 4th very quickly and smoothly.

If I park up and then get into the car and drive off again this process is not repeated. If there is a longer time elapse the process is repeated as the cat needs to warm up again.

The car has done this ever since I got it two and a half years ago and once I knew what it was I relaxed and stopped worrying. Ask your dealer if it could be this.

BTW mine is a 1996 S280 with five speed auto.

Chris.

Thanks SSL

The thing that makes me wonder if this is so is that I don't recall it doing this when I first got it. If it hasn't caused you any problems in the last 2 years then I hope mine is the same. I think I'm going to start the car up and warm it up for 10 minutes then see what happens.

Thanks for taking the time to write, appreciated.
