New ICE Installation on a 93 500SEL
hey guys im new to this forum but i was just wondering if i can get some input before i start overhauling on this new project. The car is a 1993 500 SEL, with the bose system and becker cassette indash headunit. This is what im buying.
Alpine CDA 9847 headunit
Alpine IPOD adaptor
2 Alpine SWR-1222D subs
MRD-M605 600 RMS mono amp.
i decieded were not going to upgrade the speakers because it is a 11 speaker system and believe it should be decent for this setup...just want some nice kick from the trunk lol. Anyways i hear rumors that if you put in an aftermarket headunit you must rewire cables to all the speakers and factory amps. Is this true?..what exactly do i need to do to install this headunit. Once the headunits in and working..i can install the amp..just gotta get a remote wire from the front or cd changer and everything else is fine. Please let me know if anyone can help with the front end though..i'd really appreciate it.
thanks alot
Jason

I get the same car so here it goes.
Stock front speakers are 3 or 4 inhes big, so I dont know how much more bass can you pump. You might be able to use the stock wires if you know what to do. I would hate to turn the interior upside down, break clips just to install new wires.
Remote wire is very easy, the battery of the car is in the trunk, so Power, Remote and ground is all in the back.
I dont know if you will get anythiing out of the box you want in the trunk because it is very well insulatter maed and hard to get by. I put in a 12 inch bazooka once and couldnt even feel it. If you put a box in, make sure to take out 2 of the back shelf woofers so that the air can travel.
I am not waying its impossible, but is it worth it.
I would never change the original radio just cause I like the way it looks and blends in.. Aftermarket radios are butt ugly, flashy and stupid looking.
The only radio that would look good is the 3 year old Kenwood that flips around and becomes black when its closed. I am sure you can find it.
The only, ONLY advantage of aftermarket radio is SIRIUS built in,a and MP3.
