W140 Light Knob

I have a 94 S320 and the light switch for my headlights has stopped working.
The knob no longer clicks to the light selections, instead it smoothly turns and only turns on the parking lights. Also the yellow fog beam setting can longer stay pulled out on its own!

I'm guessing it needs a new switch, do yall have the information for me to fix this on my own? Thanx again fellow benzmen!

I see no one really gave you an answer, I have not done it but looked at the DVD. The switch is straight forward, to get to it you have to remove the lower bolster, and of course the trim on the switch. The pnob comes off by pushing up a small screw driver in the slot on the bottom of the knob. Remove the bezel by taking out the screws in the parking brake panel, and then remove the large nut that holds the panel and the light switch. The sitch is probably less than $100 and cheaper at on line parts sources $60. If anyone intends to do work on your own I would suggest the MB DVD, or All Data if you go the way of All Data I suggest you use

is it the switch?, or just the knob? does the knob pull off easily? can you remove the knob and check the switch function... if its a knob, $6 , but yes, the lower knee bolster comes off and then you remove the nut on the spindle and push the switch out the back...

I have subscribed to the Alldata website, in the instructions it talks about disconnecting the Quiescent current retention unit. Where is this located?

Another strange word

Quiescent current is the power that goes to things that have memory (radio, clock, and such), that means if everything is off those circuits still get voltage.
On your 94 its things that need to be reset after removing the battery,

Now that I understand what it does where is the unit itself. As you can see in the instructions provided by Alldata.com, the disconnection of the Quiescent unit is the very first step.

Replacement of Headlamp Switch

Quiescent current retention unit
disconnect, connect.

Ground cable at battery
disconnect, connect.

Steering column adjustment control button (1)
pull off, push on.

Locking element of exterior lamp switch (2)
press in with a screwdriver and pull off exterior lamp switch (2), press on.

Bulb (3)
pull out, insert.

Screws (4)
unscrew, screw in.

Covers (5 and 6)
take out, insert.

Screw (7)
unscrew, screw in.

NOTE: Hold adjusting lever (8) with plate nut (9) for the screw (7) to prevent it turning when installing cover below instrument panel.

Nut (10)
unscrew, screw on.

Cover (11)
take off, fit on.

Pneumatic line (12) except with HPF and xenon headlamps
pull off, fit on.

Lighting (13)
withdraw, push in.

Exterior lamp switch (S1)
turn to left and take out downward; insert from below and turn to right.

NOTE: Ensure the retaining lugs (arrow) on the exterior lamp switch (S1) are correctly seated.

Electrical connection (14)
unplug, plug in.
