Ashtray Unit Removal
Is it even possible for one to remove the entire ashtray unit without taking apart the woodgrain paneling of the center control assembly?

In one word NO, remove ash tray insert, loosen screw on lid and slide up. look down where lid was there are two lateral (torx or allen) screws, remove. These hold the upper and lower panels together, notice seam. Next remove trim ring around shifter, gently lift panel from ash tray siide and slide forward to release catches at rear of panel. The catches are very fragile, unplug connectors.
If you have your radio code, proceed by removing radio, and temp assembly and then remove two screws in radio opening, and two phillips screws at the base of the panel, pivot panel away from bottom and pull down from top when clear of swithches which remain. I would change shifter bulb while in there.
95 went to a one piece panel which is different.
