Topic: thinking about buying a Mercedes Benz 560SEC, need help!
a couple of weeks ago, i thought of another crazy idea, a late 80s/early 90s mercedes benz 560SEC. i have always thought these are incredible cars. i wanted one from the first time i saw one...and i was 12 yrs old!
i'm just kicking around some ideas for my next car.
a smart person would buy a nice reliable japanese car, but what's the fun in that?
so, how do i go about finding some sort of faq on the 560SEC. the stats, common maladies and what to look for when purchasing. i hear they are fairly bulletproof. i'll spend the 12-14K to get a good one and not a 5K junker, but they are still $75K cars to start with and they still require parts and maitenance for a car of that price, right?
my only rational for buying one, other than they are gorgeous, is that i have friends that aren't afraid to touch one and there's gotta be enough "deceased" ones around for parts by now. that, and i take the BART (bay area rapid transit) for daily transportation (at least at my present job).
so, should i just leave this as a dream or is this a viable idea for a next car?
lastly, when i get down and dirty and start to check out "the talent pool", is there anyone on this forum that lives in the bay area and is an s-class expert? especially an enthusiast that works on his own car. thanks.
see ya,
Robby

S600 Coupe. 560SEC, E55
Robby: These are wonderful cars. I had an 83 SEC fo 16 years and this year bought a 91. There is a forum that has all of the information and help you will need. Try MBCoupes .com and click on SEC. Lots of information in archives and a buyers guide you can print that is very comprehensive. There are a lot of helpful members and a lot of customized cars.
Good luck!

thanks all for responding!
i swear i must have found the coupes mailing list a couple of seconds after posting this topic. i was away this weekend, but i am eager to meet some of the members on the list.
seems like a great place to learn more about the car and a great place to buy one as well! i prefer to buy from enthusiasts as they are fanatical concerning maintenance.
i can also hear about common maladies and how they go about repair. not to mention find decent repair shops, if not members, that do great work.
anybody want a taurus SHO that's way too fast for it's own good in the bay area? anybody, anybody? oh well ;-)
