Radio Problem

'92 300SE with stock radio. No phone or CD connected but wired for it. After about 20 minutes, I get a loud noise, like it is shorted out. I isolated the noise coming from the left rear door speaker only. The speaker grill is intact and there are no other signs that anything has damaged that speaker.

Do you think the problem is the speaker, the amplifier, or wiring?

I was going to have the door panel removed and disconnect that speaker. By the time I do all that, I might as well replace the speaker.

Any comments?
